Other line-ups

Himalaya can also play "unplugged” : a totally acoustic line-up and program.
As an alternative beside the main project other combinations are also available.

1 - Himalaya  Ambrosia

Himalaya  Ambrosia : the core of this line-up are the two founders and composers of Himalaya : Mark Bogaerts on sitar, guitar & saxophones, and Saskia Vanhoegaerden on Celtic harp, flute & vocals.
They can perform as a duo or play with other members of Himalaya or also invite some very talented musicians coming from different music styles and cultures.
Nice combinations : trio with Sumi Lea Hordijk or with John Litton Baroï, quartet with both of them or with Fabrice Colet, ... duo, trio, quartet with one or more guests, the possibilities are manifold and can be adapted to everyone’s needs and preferences.
Next to the compositions of the Himalaya program they dispose of a large choice of other personal creations. Compositions in very diversified style forms with multiple timbres and nuances ranging from intimate moods till energetic and effervescent atmospheres.

2 - Himalaya Skull Intensity Interactions

Another project, more 'heavy stuff', is the trio Himalaya Skull Intensity Interactions, a combination of Himalaya with the resurrection of two other 'legendary' projects : the trio Skull Intensity and the quintet Interactions.
Skull Intensity was a very hot free-funk style band from the eighties (they played among others at the Jazz Middelheim festival in 1985). The musicians were : Mark Bogaerts on alto and baritone saxes, guitar, lead vocals & compositions, Eric Moens on bass & backing vocals and Gianni Manente on drums & backing vocals.
Interactions, also an eighties band was composed by Mark Bogaerts on saxes & guitar, Garrett List on trombone, Eric Moens on guitar & bass, Guy Segers on bass and Ron Van Eycke on drums. They played a totally improvised electric music using all kind of electronic effects on their instruments, quiet advanced for that time.
Both groups, Skull Intensity and Interactions, were strong and daring experiments !
Thus the trio Himalaya Skull Intensity Interactions makes acombination of these three projects : compositions of Himalaya and Skull Intensity are interweaved with extended improvisations in the spirit of Interactions. Depending on the atmosphere of the place where they perform they can also add other dimensions by playing classic rock songs from the sixties, seventies, ... in a free-rockstyle like Jimi Hendrix used to play and/or jazz standards in a freely way.
Himalaya Skull Intensity Interactions consists of MarkBogaerts on sitar, guitar, saxophone & vocals, Eric Moens on bass, synthesizer & vocals and Fabrice Colet on drums, tabla, mridingam & percussions.
The trio can also function as a base for experiments with other musicians.

3 - Himalaya Dawn jazz quartet

Himalaya Dawn jazz quartet is as the name indicates an ensemble with accent on jazz. However the instrumentation is rather uncommon : next to familiar instruments in jazz like sax, guitar, doublebass and drums, there is also flute but very unusual for jazz are Celtic harp and Indian sitar. This particular colouration gives birth to a very rich and unique sound.
Himalaya Dawn jazz quartet plays original compositions with a very personal approach and influences coming from different cultures.
The musicians are : Mark Bogaerts on saxophone, guitar & sitar, Saskia Vanhoegaerden on Celtic harp, flute & vocals, Jean Van Lint on double bass and Jan de Haas on drums.
